Chiba Theme Parks: Tokyo Disneyland, Tokyo DisneySea & Ikspiari

Tokyo Disney Resort is one of the most popular day trips from Tokyo, and many visitors are surprised to learn it is actually in Chiba Prefecture, in the bayside city of Urayasu. Just 15 minutes by train from Tokyo Station, the resort combines two very different parks, the classic Tokyo Disneyland and the one-of-a-kind Tokyo DisneySea, plus the Ikspiari shopping and dining complex and a monorail that links everything together. This guide covers what makes each stop special, how tickets and paid ride reservations work in late 2026, and where to stay nearby.

1. Tokyo Disneyland

Tokyo Disneyland will feel familiar to anyone who has been to Disneyland in California or Magic Kingdom in Florida, with Cinderella Castle at its center and a covered Main Street-style entry called World Bazaar, which is handy on rainy days. What sets it apart is the polish: immaculate theming, detailed parades and attractions you cannot ride in the US, such as Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast and Pooh’s Hunny Hunt with its trackless ride vehicles. Note that Space Mountain closed in July 2024 for a complete rebuild, with a new version expected in 2027. The main entrance is about a five-minute walk from JR Maihama Station. Park hours vary by date, so check the official calendar, and plan on a full day. Japanese guests often camp out early for parades and the nighttime show, so if a show is a priority for you, claim a spot well before it starts.

2. Tokyo DisneySea

Tokyo DisneySea is the park that many fans, including plenty of Americans, rank as the best Disney park in the world. Instead of lands, it is built around “ports of call” on the water, starting with Mediterranean Harbor and the smoking Mount Prometheus volcano, and moving through areas themed to American waterfronts, the Arabian Coast and the deep sea. Its newest area, Fantasy Springs, opened in 2024 with worlds based on Frozen, Tangled and Peter Pan. The park is celebrating its 25th anniversary from April 15, 2026 to March 31, 2027, so expect special decorations and entertainment. To get there from Maihama Station, walk about two minutes to Resort Gateway Station and ride the Disney Resort Line to Tokyo DisneySea Station. DisneySea also serves alcohol, unlike Tokyo Disneyland, which makes it a favorite for adult travelers.

3. Ikspiari and the Disney Resort Line

Ikspiari is the shopping, dining and entertainment complex right outside Maihama Station, with around 140 shops and restaurants plus a cinema. It is open from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. (individual shops vary), so it is a useful place for a sit-down meal before or after the parks, last-minute souvenirs, or a rainy-day break. The Disney Resort Line monorail loops around the resort in about 13 minutes, stopping at Resort Gateway Station (next to Ikspiari and Maihama Station), Tokyo Disneyland Station, Bayside Station for the official hotels, and Tokyo DisneySea Station. A single ride costs 300 yen for ages 12 and up, and day passes are also sold at the ticket machines, often in collectible seasonal designs. If you are staying at one of the Bayside hotels, the monorail is the easiest way to get to and from the parks with tired kids.

Quick Tips for Visiting

  • Buy dated park tickets online in advance; they are sold on the official website and app, not at the gates, and popular dates can sell out.
  • Ticket prices vary by date: from October 2026, adult 1-Day Passports reach up to 12,400 yen on the busiest days, so weekdays are both cheaper and less crowded.
  • Download the official Tokyo Disney Resort app; it holds your tickets and is where you buy Disney Premier Access, the paid ride reservations that cost about 1,000 to 2,500 yen per attraction. The free 40th-anniversary Priority Pass ended on August 31, 2026.
  • Plan one park per day; Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea are each big enough to fill a full day.
  • Use the Disney Resort Line to reach Tokyo DisneySea; walking from Maihama Station is not practical.

Getting there by train: Maihama Station is about 15 minutes from Tokyo Station on the JR Keiyo Line, and the JR Pass covers the ride. Read our guide to riding trains in Japan, check whether the JR Pass is worth it, see how to ride the Shinkansen if you are continuing to Kyoto or Osaka, and read our guide to getting from Narita or Haneda Airport to Tokyo.
